Men’s Suit Fit Guide

Discover the perfect fit for any formal occasion with our Suit Fit Guide for Men. From polished slim tailoring to relaxed modern garments, we've collected all the necessary information to help you find your ideal style.

Our Fits

Slim Fit

This type of suit is usually broad across the shoulders and features a tapered waist and narrow tapered leg. Designed to create a more fitted and slender look, slim suits have a neat and polished appeal that may highlight the athletic body type and long legs or make other body types look slimmer.

Modern Fit

Featuring a straight cut from the shoulders through the waist, modern fit is wider in the chest, waist, and leg, creating a sharp silhouette and making it a versatile option for any formal event. Suitable for any body type, this fit is easy to wear and style in numerous ways.

Tailored Fit

Tailored fit comes in between Slim and Modern, as it is neither too tight nor too relaxed. It features a shaped waist and clean lines, creating a stylish and neat silhouette. Usually, the tailored fit has slightly tapered trousers to add a smart appeal to the overall look.

Unisex Fit

This fit takes some features from women’s suits while others remain masculine. Compared to a regular men’s fit, the jacket’s shoulders are narrower, the bicep is smaller, and the waist and hip are less tapered. A more structured, unisex fit allows the outfit to flatter a more comprehensive range of body types.

How to Measure for a Suit

When it comes to tailoring, accurate measurements are one of the most essential parts of finding the perfect fit. Therefore, if you opt for a suit that will flatter your body, be ready to spend some time with a measuring tape. No help is needed, only your enthusiasm, favorite suit, and close attention. Below, we will explain how to measure for a suit in the easiest way.

Suit Jacket

The shoulder width is the most important measurement to get a perfect fit for men’s suit jackets. It should be a bit wider than your shoulders, but never narrower. The back of the jacket should lay flat on your back without making lines or folds. Vents on the sides or the back should stay closed. The jacket has a perfect length if it hits the second knuckle of the thumb and barely covers your rear end. Sleeve length should allow ⅓ inch of the shirt cuff to be shown.

Shirt

Men’s shirts have flattering looks if they suit well. The collar should be loose enough to get two fingers between the collar and the neck. Shoulder seams should sit right at your shoulder bones. The ideal shirt allows you to tuck it into trousers without being uncomfortable. Sleeves end at the break of the wrist, while cuffs should be small enough to leave a little space around them but not to pull.

Trousers

Men’s trousers should fit at the waist enough to be worn without a belt. On the hips, the fabric should lay smoothly without ripples or horizontal lines. Trousers should sit on the natural waist, meaning they should have a high rise. The length should be long enough to create a slight break — a small fold of the fabric of the trousers on the shoe. Legs should be tapered and narrow to the ankle.

Shoes

For a formal look, choose black Oxfords or patent leather shoes, but if the event allows you to be more relaxed, go for dress boots or loafers. Men’s shoes should be tight at the back and loose at the front. If the rear of the foot holds firmly and there is enough room for the toes to move freely, then the shoe is just right.
